Whether you are a royal fan or not, you can’t escape Royal Wedding Fever. I had the great misfortune of being without television or the internet for one of the biggest royal events yet. A wedding junkie and lover of all things romance, I schlepped myself and my laptop to Starbucks and got settled with a tea to catch up on all I have missed in the last 24 hours.
After eight years of dating, Wills and Catherine (as she is now to be known) tied the knot in an elegant affair on Friday April 29, 2011. Romance and tradition set the tone for the day and the Kate’s much anticipated dress. Kate chose Alexander McQueen for a reputation in bringing tradition and modernity together. Designer Sarah Burton created the ceremony dress which boasted a low v-neck, topped with long lace sleeves and a cinched waist, telling of Grace Kelly style, which suited Britain’s newest princess to a T. Burton also designed Catherine’s second dress for the reception, a beautiful satin strapless number with diamante detailing, topped with an angora bolero, along with bridesmaid, Pippa’s stunning ivory cowel neck gown. Catherine wore a Tiara lent to her by the Queen, which dates back to 1936, and it complemented her wedding day look perfectly.
Within minutes of Catherine’s debut designers around the world were hard at work creating knock offs that are sure to be available soon. Catherine looked absolutely beautiful and truly looked like the princess she has now become (her official title, Princess Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge). She has often been compared to Diane for style and Catherine has shown that she certainly has confidence in a style that is truly her own. I don’t doubt that Catherine will continue to bring great style to the fashion scene (think the blue Issa London dress from the engagement announcement that sold out within hours of the broadcast) while bringing us all a little bit of the glamour and mystery of the royal life.

Pastels pinks, blues and mint green are back in a big way on runways this season. And it’s not just for bridesmaids! Bridal dresses in pale shades are popping up everywhere and certainly make a statement from a traditional white wedding dress (think Gwen Stefani from 2002!) I find the pastels romantic and other hot romantic trend we’re seeing a lot of this season is rosettes. From dress accents and accessories to shoes, purses and hair accessories, these little touches can make a big impression.
Another trend that is hot this season is Eco Weddings. From venues to dresses and everything in between, recognizing our mother nature is important to modern brides. Adele Weschler, a designer from Toronto, offers a complete line of Eco Couture dresses that offer style and elegance while using remnant fabrics and hemp dyes.
